FAQ'sQuestions & Answers

How long does the work take?

This varies considerably depending on the complexity of the job itself, the location, or the sheer number of services requested.

We will have a good discussion during the quote about expected timings.  You will have our best estimate at timescales involved by the time you have your completed quote.

Why are your online costs only estimated?

Each job in this industry is unique.  The very basic jobs in each services field will come in at the estimated cost, depending on the fixtures requested.

Some jobs unfortunately carry certain complexity, or other factors that increase the timescale, and workload which in turn means that we will have to slightly increase the price.  All quotes will include a detailed cost list.

Whats a wall chase?

A wall chase is a specific area of the wall that must be cut out, or chiselled in order to run the cables to a fitting or fixture.  They are unfortunately a requirement for certain electrical services to be completed.

At PSV ELectrical, we pride ourselves on doing the job as neat as possible and conducting a thorough clean-up prior to leaving the work site.

We also have an additional service to re-fill the wall chases if required.

Are the services certified?

Simple answer. Yes.

Each and every one of our electrical services will come with a certificate.  Some can and will be sent through very soon after the work is completed, others, depending on the works will be sent through from building control when they receive our certificate to them.  These can take up to 30 days to arrive post work completion.

What are your waiting times for works?

This varies from week to week.  If you get in touch for a quote, we will give you a precise waiting time, or even set a date prior to us finalising the quote.

For some of the smaller jobs, we may add you to our cancelation list, so if there is a timeslot that becomes available at short notice, we will give you a call and if you are available we will complete the works sooner.

Why are there 2 different estimated costs for a re-wire?

To be as transparent as possible here, completing a re-wire of a property with someone living in it through-out adds a phenominal amount of work to the service.

Each evening prior to wrapping up, we must return the poroprty to a livable safe standard, which can take up to an hour depending on the poperty.  This is an hour lost for the actual service provision.

Then, each morning on our arrival, we must return the property to the working standard from the previous day to continue works.

The best example here is floorboards and power.  The occupants will require alternate power to be provided through-out the works, this is an addition to an empty property works.  Floorboards will be required to be pulled up and returned to position each day, no matter how often they will be used for actions such as cable running.

We hope this helps.

What if my work comes in cheaper than the estimated price on the quote?

These things happen.

Sometimes (Not very often) we will over quote as all available views and or visits show the job to have a certain level of additional complexity or other factors.

Then, when we arrive to complete the work, we find the job is a lot simpler than expected and takes less time.

When this does happen, you will find the final cost has been changed to reflect this on your invoice.  The minimum costs involved will be the estimated costs on our pricing page per fixture or fitting.

Can you install 'Smart' switches for my lights?

Short answer, yes.

Long asnwer, smart switches generally require a Neutral conductor at the switch, which some wiring methods do not include (Neutrals will be at the light fixtures.) If yours doesn’t have a neutral conductor at the switch, this could be a much larger job.  This will easily be decided during our quote visit.
